Semana Magazine stands as one of Colombia’s most traditional and long-standing media outlets. Since its establishment in the 1950s, it has continuously delivered information, unwavering in its commitment to “We deliver the truth. Nothing more, nothing less.”

Following a series of strategic moves and a change in leadership in 2020, the magazine has redirected its efforts toward a fresh horizon, aspiring to become the “Colombian equivalent of Fox News” with a new and ambitious objective: to establish a consistent digital presence that positions it as the most consulted digital medium in Colombia. 

A graphic system for the iconic red square

We refreshed the magazine’s visual identity, bringing its iconic logotype into the 21st century. In collaboration with Bastarda Type, we modernized the typography, eliminating shadows and bevels while optimizing its forms. These adjustments harmonize perfectly with the magazine’s new vision as a message-centric media platform.

Moreover, we developed a versatile visual system rooted in the magazine’s distinctive symbol. By constructing modular compositions, we infused it with new meaning, framing and highlighting relevant information. This approach stays true to the ideals of delivering timely and truthful information, consistent with the essence of print media.

A total digital experience

For a communication platform, there is a golden rule: to be fully updated. We approached this project with the same premise in mind.

A bespoke voice and typography

A new system and a completely fresh business strategy had a compelling story to tell. Likewise, they required a distinctive voice and typography to support these strategic changes within the magazine. For this purpose, partnering with Bastarda Type, we designed the Semana Typeface Family.

This typography features both Sans and Serif versions, offering impeccable expressive capabilities and a strong digital presence. It bestows upon the magazine a distinct and revitalized voice, on par with the leading media outlets worldwide.
